Inman Gallery is pleased to participate in the inaugural Untitled Art, Houston, taking place September 18–21, with a two person booth of new and recent work by Houston-based artists Jamal Cyrus and Francesca Fuchs.
For Untitled, Jamal Cyrus has created new fiber works and three new sculptures. The artist has been working with denim since 2018 and more recently has been pushing the material to create rich painterly abstractions, referencing free jazz and issues of metaphysics within Black sound production. All of the new sculptures are conceived as percussion instruments; the artist embeds history into their very material and form, drawing on symbolic, spiritual, and political references.
Over the past four years, Francesca Fuchs has been painting portraits of sculptures she made as a young artist. The eight paintings of classical female sculptural forms will be presented together for the first time at Untitled. As with all of Fuchs’ paintings, the care and love in their making highlights the objects’ energy and presence. We're excited to highlight Fuchs at the fair while her solo exhibition, The Space Between Loving and Looking, is currently on view at the Menil Collection.
The Fair, featuring 88 galleries from diverse locales, will take place at the George R Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston. For more information and fair programming, see their website.
