Sigrid Sandström was born in 1970 in Stockholm, Sweden and currently lives and works in Red Hook, NY, and Brooklyn, NY. She studied at Cooper Union School of Art, Academie Minerva, Groningen, The Netherlands (BFA 1997), attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (2000) and received an MFA in Painting from Yale University in 2001. Sandström's work was recently included in the Contemporary Arts Museum of Houston's 25th anniversary exhibition, Perspectives @ 25. Her first solo museum exhibition, Ginnungagap: Recent Works by Sigrid Sandstrom, was mounted in 2006 at the Frye Art Museum, Seattle, WA. Curated by Robin Held, it was accompanied by a full-color catalogue. Sandström's video work was featured in the 2005 solo exhibition Her Black Flags:Video projections by Sigrid Sandström, at Mills College Art Museum, Oakland, CA. In 2003 her work was included in the exhibition Pertaining to Painting, at the Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, curated by Paola Morsiani. Pertaining to Painting traveled to the Austin Museum of Art in 2004.
Sandström's 2007 solo exhibition at Edward Thorp Gallery, New York, was reviewed in Artforum.
